NORRISTOWN, PA – August 27, 2019 − State Senator Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery/Delaware) this past Saturday joined the Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County (Montco SAAC) for their open house & community day event in Norristown, PA.
The Montco SAAC invited the community to join them as they celebrated recent updates to their Norristown Center. The event featured entertainment, tours, food/drink, information about Meals on Wheels and Chair Yoga. The event also included a backpack and school-supply distribution drive. The Men and Women of 500 (George Street) helped sponsor the event, along with IBEW Local 98 and Teamsters Local 384. Leach also helped sponsor the drive.
“The Montco SAAC embodies so much of what makes our community so great; their amazing staff is always thinking of creative ways to help their visitors but also always coming up with innovative ideas that help our communities,” Leach said. “I’ve seen them spend countless hours taking plastic bags and turning them into waterproof mats for the homeless and I’ve also visited the awesome “SAACS on Fifth,” a thrift shop located in their Norristown Center that accepts donated new or gently used clothing/collectibles. The Montco SAAC is truly a gem, and I was honored to join them at their open house and so happy to see the updates.”
“This weekend for example, the Montco SAAC, along with the Men and Women of 500 and other members of the community, helped acquire and distribute backpacks for dozens and dozens of students in the Norristown area,” Leach continued. “I can’t thank The Men and Women of 500 and the Montco SAAC enough for again giving back to this community and for including me in those efforts. I also want to thank Teamsters Local 384 and IBEW Local 98, their generosity made so much of this possible.”
Additional donations have come in after hearing about this event. Coordinators now have extra bags and supplies that are available for local residents who may need them. If you or someone you know is in need of a backpack or other school supplies, please don’t hesitate to contact Leach’s district office at (610) 768-4200.
