HARRISBURG – February 28, 2020 − State Senator Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today issued the following statement regarding Montgomery County’s decision to fire Dean Beer and Keisha Hudson, the Chief and Deputy Chief of Montgomery County’s Public Defender Office. Leach’s prior statement on this issue can be found here.
“The statement issued yesterday by the Montgomery County Commissioners is wholly inadequate and seems to me to be an attempt at misdirection. The issue isn’t the Commissioners’ vague interest in the concept of bail reform. It’s the apparent retaliatory firing of two highly regarded public defenders for speaking out in interests of their clients.
The county can’t quell the deep public disapproval of these firings by issuing a statement which doesn’t explain, or even allude to these firings. The only appropriate remedy is to directly address the issue, and correct the injustice by immediately reinstating Dean Beer and Keisha Hudson, (who were apparently escorted out of their offices by security).”
Senator Daylin Leach represents the 17th Senatorial District, which includes parts of Montgomery County and Delaware County. For more information visit www.senatorleach.com/newsroom.
