Nearly 1.5 million Pennsylvanians have diabetes and so many struggle to afford the important medication they need every month. November is National Diabetes Month, so for this issue of the Blueprint I wanted to highlight Senate Bill 828, my bill to make insulin more affordable for Pennsylvania residents.
Approximately 7.4 million people in America use insulin EVERY day. While the cost to create a dose of insulin is just $4, insulin can cost users as much as $450 per month on average. This outrageous markup forces many patients around the U.S. to skip their lifesaving doses.
Every Pennsylvania that needs it should be able receive their insulin at an affordable price, and my bill ensures that insurance companies will cover the bulk of the cost.
I hope you enjoy this issue of The Blueprint. Please let me know if you have any questions or thoughts.
