KING OF PRUSSIA, June 1, 2011 – State Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Delaware/Montgomery) recently held a reception to honor local high school students whose artwork will be displayed at his King of Prussia office as part of a rotating student art gallery through the summer and fall seasons.

In a statement released after the reception, Leach congratulated the students on their dedication to their craft and urged others to remember the value of the arts in schools and communities around the state.

“In these tough budget times, it is especially important to highlight the accomplishments of young artists and the importance of the arts to our schools,” Leach said. “I hope that everyone who enters my office will appreciate the hard work and skill that went into creating these pieces, and will realize how beneficial and much-needed these programs are.”

Last week’s reception honored students from Upper Merion Area High School whose works were selected as part of the gallery. The pieces were chosen by Upper Merion teachers Troy Burhart, Lisa Burns and Megan Bishop. Leach said he plans to continue the tradition of the student art gallery in the future and will continue accepting submissions from other students and area schools in the coming weeks.

“The goal is to recognize and honor creativity in our high school students,” he explained. “I want to shine a spotlight on their hard work and encourage them to continue excelling in the future.”
