KING OF PRUSSIA, April 16, 2010 – Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, today presented the Librarians of the Year awards to two notable librarians in the 17th district for their contributions to the public school and public library systems.
This year, Leach recognized Marianne Hooper from Upper Merion Public Library as the 2010 Public Librarian of the Year and Kelly McDermott from Bala Cynwyd Middle School Library as the 2010 School Librarian of the Year.
The Librarians of the Year awards ceremony, part of National Library Week , honors two outstanding librarians from the 17th district – one who works in the local school system and one who serves the public library system.
“Open a door to a library and you open the door to the world,” Leach said. “I am thankful for the work librarians do. I know they certainly made a big difference in my life growing up in Philadelphia, and I am very happy to honor these two outstanding librarians for their efforts."
Nomination forms were widely distributed throughout the district, and Leach said that he was pleased with the amount of nominations and votes received this year.
“I am proud to be able to extend recognition to the 17th district’s exceptional librarians, Marianne Hooper and Kelly McDermott,” he said. “It was heartening to see the residents of the 17th legislative district come forward to vote for their favorite librarian and pay to them the recognition and respect that they deserve.”
The 2010 Librarians of the Year ceremony was held at the American Reading Company in King of Prussia.
