NORRISTOWN, October 9, 2009 – State Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Delaware/Montgomery) announced that the Bridgeport Retail Unit, a branch of the Norristown Post Office, will remain open for business after a consolidation review by the United States Postal Service.
“No one can argue that the downturn in the nation’s economy has affected us at the state and local levels,” Leach said. “In times like this, it is encouraging when we can keep local businesses and branches of government functional. I am happy to have learned that the Bridgeport Post Office will continue to provide a valuable service to our community.”
Due to decreasing revenues, the U.S. Postal Service this summer began reviewing local post offices for consolidation with other branches. After meeting certain criteria, the Bridgeport location was targeted for consolidation. However, after a formal study consisting of customer surveys and other gathered data, the U.S. Postal Service canceled its review of the Norristown location.
The review was commissioned during congressional briefings on August 21, 2009, and the U.S. Post Office will continue to review and evaluate other post office branches around the nation.
