WAYNE, May 6, 2009 – This weekend, Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, served as the keynote speaker at the Valley Forge Military Academy & College’s non-denominational chapel service at the Alumni Memorial Chapel of St. Cornelius the Centurion, and also presented a check from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania towards a major capital improvement project.

During his remarks, Sen. Leach urged the students and their families to always remember the prestige of the institution that they attend and the unique way the school changes lives in Pennsylvania. He also encouraged them to live by the school’s core virtues for May: perseverance, trustworthiness and self-discipline.

Leach also presented the school with a $400,000 grant on behalf of the Commonwealth to VFMA&C President Tony McGeorge. The grant was awarded to support building renovations as the program prepares to expand and greatly increase female attendance.

“The Valley Forge Military Academy & College is one of the premier military schools in the nation and is a local treasure here in Delaware County,” Leach said. “It was my honor to speak to faculty, students and their families, and to present them with a check that will provide for renovations that will supplement the outstanding living environment and education the institution already provides.”

After the chapel service and check presentation, state Rep. Bryan Lentz, D-Delaware, hosted a luncheon during which he presented a $5,000 check on behalf of the Commonwealth to the Wall Street Warfighters. The luncheon featured guest speaker Attorney General Jack Wagner.

According to its Web site, the Valley Forge Military Academy & College was founded in 1928, beginning as an all-male college-preparatory boarding school and a co-educational two-year transfer college located in the 17th Legislative District. The Valley Forge Military Academy is a residential learning environment serving middle school students and high school students from grades 7 through post-graduate. The Valley Forge Military College is a two-year college for students seeking to transfer to a four-year college, university or service academy.
