HAVERFORD, July 21 - “No Billboards in Haverford”, a grass-roots organization comprised of citizens of Haverford Township, wants to encourage opposition to the pending construction of large billboards in their community.
The group’s current strategic goal is to raise awareness among the residents of Haverford, Marple, Springfield, and surrounding townships of the intentions of the Bartkowski Investment Group (BIG) to develop a number of large billboards throughout local communities.

“No Billboards in Haverford” opposes the development of this type of outdoor advertising, and plan to demonstrate in an orderly and respectful manner at public locations adjacent to the proposed billboard sites. The group’s most recent public demonstration took place on July 16th at the Lynnewood Elementary School in Haverford Township. According to its official statement, the group says that “large billboards are inconsistent with the architecture and scale of the buildings within our townships, pose health and safety hazards to the citizens of our communities, and will diminish the economic value of property within our communities.”
The organization calls Sen. Daylin Leach’s district of Delaware and Montgomery counties home. Leach said, “‘No Billboards in Haverford’ states their main purpose to be the preservation of the aesthetic beauty of public spaces within suburban communities - an honorable mission. It's encouraging to see residents taking such an active role in shaping their community and directing the outcome. This is how a democracy is supposed to work.”
Interested residents are encouraged to read this Delco Times article about the proposed billboards and then visit the organization’s Web site to sign the anti-billboard petition.
