HARRISBURG, July 14, 2009 – State Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, today announced $5.1 million in state grant funds for sewer projects in Montgomery County.
“Infrastructure improvements are often ignored until you have a catastrophe,” Leach said. “The grants to fix the problems associated with these projects will help avoid a big problem and better protect public health and the environment.”
The projects include:
- Montgomery County - $3.8 million for the relocation of the Norristown Sewage Treatment Plant, which will provide a solution to problems experienced at the existing plant including aging infrastructure and wet weather flows.
- Plymouth Township - $1 million for new sanitary lines, force main replacements and the rehabilitation of existing failing sewage conveyance systems which will safely convey raw sewage to a treatment facility.
- Upper Merion Township - $337,592 for the upgrade of the hydraulic capacity of the Tredyffrin Interceptor to limit wastewater flows and to prevent untreated wastewater from entering Trout Run.
The grants were awarded through the Department of Community and Economic Development's H2O PA Water Supply Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects Grant program. Established by the General Assembly in July 2008, the H2O PA Act uses gaming revenues to provide grants for the acquisition, construction, improvement, expansion or rehabilitation of water supplies, sewage disposal or storm water systems.
