HARRISBURG, Feb. 9, 2009 – Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, announced that he will participate in a live call-in program tonight at 7 p.m. on PCN.
Leach will serve as a roundtable member along with Sen. John Eichelberger, R-Bedford/ Blair/ Fulton/Huntingdon/Mifflin, to discuss legislation related to health care workers who provide reproductive services and a recent reproductive services ruling through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“Sen. Eichelberger and I have differing views on some aspects of reproductive services,” Leach said. “So I am excited to join the panel this evening and offer my perspective. It should be an interesting night and an engaging discussion, and I encourage viewers to call in and express their opinions, as well.”
Eichelberger introduced S.B. 1255 in the 2007-08 session that would protect the right of all health care providers and institutions to decline to counsel, advise, provide, perform, assist or participate in providing or performing health care services that violate their consciences.
Leach has long been a supporter of reproductive rights, and plans to reintroduce legislation this session that would require hospitals to offer information about the availability of emergency contraception to rape victims who come to the hospital for treatment. If after receiving the information, the victim wishes to receive Emergency Contraception, the hospital would be required to provide it.
Viewers are encouraged to call into the program to offer their comments or to ask questions of the panelists. Interested participants may call 1-877-726-5001 to participate in the program.
