HARRISBURG, April 21, 2009 – Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, last week received the 2009 Mideastern Region Friend of Education Award for his longstanding service to the state’s public education system.
The Mideastern Region PSEA presented Leach with the award on behalf of the nearly 16,000 educators in Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Leach, who cites education as one of his top legislative priorities, said he is honored to have received this award.
“In this line of work, you don’t set out to win awards,” he said. “You go to work each day and fight for legislation that will ultimately better the lives of Pennsylvanians. I believe in the value of education and I believe that all Pennsylvania students are entitled to a quality education. So it is for that reason that I’ve always fought for the interests of our public schools. Receiving this award is an honor and confirmation that I am accomplishing what I’ve set out to do.”
Linda J. Weaver, President of the Mideastern Region PSEA noted that in addition to receiving the Mideastern Friend of Education Award, Leach’s name will also be inscribed in a plaque that is displayed in PSEA’s Montgomeryville office.
“Our choice for the 2009 Friend of Education was easy. We know where Daylin's heart is and we know that public education has a friend in deeds and not just words. We are proud to add Daylin's name to our list of distinguished honorees," Weaver said.
Leach received the award at a ceremony held at the PSEA Region House of Delegates in Blue Bell, PA.
