BRYN MAWR, January 27, 2012 - Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Delaware/Montgomery) today invited members of the press and public to attend a free film and panel discussion on human trafficking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute.
The event, presented by Leach, Rep. Lawrence Curry (D-Montgomery/Phila.) and the Montgomery County Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition, will feature a viewing of the film “Not My Life,” narrated by Glenn Close. The film documents the lives of children who have been captured and forced to work as laborers and sex workers. Following the film will be a discussion on human trafficking and how to stop it from claiming any more victims.
Leach has been active in raising awareness about the plight of human trafficking for the past three years. Recently, the Pennsylvania Senate unanimously passed his Senate Resolution 244 recognizing Jan. 11, 2012 as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.
Leach noted that S.R. 244 urges state law enforcement and government officials to pro-actively seek out all forms of human trafficking in Pennsylvania and to protect residents from falling victim to this horrific crime. The resolution’s adoption comes on the heels of the first two human trafficking convictions in Pennsylvania, both of the accused pleading guilty at Media Courthouse in Delaware County.
