NEWTOWN SQUARE, October 20, 2010 – State Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Delaware/ Montgomery) today announced plans for an abortion debate with pro-life advocate Scott Klusendorf this Friday, October 22. The debate will take place at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square at 9 a.m.

“I am eager to debate Mr. Klusendorf this week on a topic that I am so passionate about,” said Leach. “I’ve spent much of my career focusing on strengthening legislation for women’s health initiatives, and I believe that ensuring a woman’s right to choose is a clear extension of that goal. I am delighted to conduct this debate at Episcopal Academy where our community's students will have the opportunity to hear both sides of this important issue facing our state and nation.”

Leach, considered to be one of the most progressive members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, has been a long-time advocate for women’s rights. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, he authored the Contraceptive Equity bill which would prohibit sexual discrimination in health insurance and the Access to Emergency Contraceptives Act which would help victims of sexual assault avoid unwanted pregnancy.

Klusendorf is the president of Life Training Institute, a ministry whose mission is to “[train] Christians and pro-life advocates to persuasively defend their views in the marketplace of ideas by clearly presenting the pro-life position in live events and through the full use of modern media including the internet, radio, television, and the publication of books and articles.”
