RADNOR, March 2, 2010 – Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Delaware/Montgomery, will be holding his Second Annual Good Government Seminar this Friday March 5 at Cabrini College in Radnor Township.
The Good Government Seminar is an educational forum for high school students from the 17th Senatorial District. The seminar uses a "mock Senate" format to help participants understand the legislative process. The students will have the opportunity to interact with administration and community leaders, legislators and government affairs representatives to learn their roles in creating, introducing and debating pieces of legislation.
Panelists will include Rep. Matt Bradford, D-Montgomery, Rep. Kathy Manderino, D-Montgomery/Philadelphia, Rebecca Foley from WOMEN’S WAY and Andy Hoover from the American Civil Liberties Union.
This year’s participating schools include Archbishop John Carroll High School, the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Haverford High School, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, Kennedy Kenrick Catholic High School, Norristown Area High School, Radnor High School and Upper Merion Area High School.
The mock Senate will consider bills such as Leach’s Pennsylvania Compassionate Use Act, which would provide for the use of medical marijuana; the Pennsylvania Healthy Youth Act, which would set guidelines for Pennsylvania public schools for teaching comprehensive sex education in schools; and the Marriage Equality Act, which would allow same-sex couples in Pennsylvania to marry.
