My legislative track record demonstrates a deep commitment to protecting Pennsylvania’s natural environment. In the House of Representatives, I helped pass Growing Greener II, an enormously successful program that provides $625 million in new funds to clean up streams, preserve open space, and improve our natural infrastructure.
I also supported enacting Renewable Portfolio Standards, which require Pennsylvania’s energy companies to produce 18% of their energy through renewable technology, including solar, wind, and geothermal.
My hybrid cars proposal, which is now law, requires that 25% of all vehicles in the state fleet be hybrid within ten years. This saves the environment AND taxpayer dollars.
The Higher CAFE Standards mandates that vehicles sold in Pennsylvania get more miles per gallon, depending on the model involved.
Because of environmentally-conscious legislation like these bills and others, Pennsylvania is becoming a leader in green initiatives. Last session, I was honored by the Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter and Clean Water Action with a perfect environmental voting score.Last updated: August 22, 2012 at 19:38 pm
